Face Lift Plastic Surgery - Benefits and Side Effects

By Matthew B Jones

Plastic surgery or face lifts have become more accessible to the masses in recent years. With lower prices, wider availability (plastic surgeons are now setting up practices in small towns as well as larger cities), and better education about the possible benefits of plastic surgery it should come as little surprise that these procedures are growing in popularity. We are also seeing a rise in younger girls having plastic surgery where once this was reserved for older women and/or wealthier women.

So, what are the benefits of plastic surgery or cosmetic face lift surgery that make it a desirable option for many women (and men) around the world? The greatest benefit that can be identified is self-esteem. When we look in the mirror, we have a tendency to notice our flaws and nothing more. Many cosmetic procedures can either correct or eliminate the things we see as flaws so that we can see the real beauty being reflected in the mirror.

Self worth is something that you cannot put a price tag on and for many women it comes at the price of physical perfection (or at least being as close to perfect as we can be). Plastic surgery assists in this process, particularly for imperfections that cannot be eliminated with diet and exercise or covered up and/or hidden with clever use of cosmetics.

Some cosmetic procedures have actual health benefits. Many women who have been abundantly blessed when it comes to their bust line have back problems as a result. Breast reduction surgery can eliminate the weight they are carrying around in order to alleviate their back strain. Rhinoplasty (commonly referred to as a nose job) has often been performed not for cosmetic reasons but to aid in breathing. So you see, not all plastic surgery procedures are performed for the sake of looking better or even feeling better about yourself. Some have actual medical benefits as well.

Let's not forget the victims of accidents and burns that have been helped over the years with the assistance of plastic surgery. It isn't a miracle fix but can help restore beauty and self worth to those who have lost so much. In these cases, plastic surgery can be literally used to give some quality of life back to those who have suffered. There are many benefits to consider when it comes to plastic surgery. Some of them are far more than skin deep.

Possible side effects to plastic surgery include: death, scarring, shock, infection, numbness, pain, swelling, and bruising. The potential side effects today are significantly fewer than in days past but they do remain and should carry weight in your decision to have plastic surgery or not. Talk openly with your doctor before having the surgery and be sure your expectations are realistic. One side effect that isn't often discussed is the potential for depression afterwards. Many women expect miracles after the surgery and are not pleased with the end result.

So there you go.

You need to understand both the benefits and limitations of your face lift surgery and what should be expected as a result in order to have the best possible experience. And remember that there are non surgical face lift alternatives now available as well. So check all your options before deciding.
