Fight Wrinkles, Fight Gravity

By Ray Intihar

Brow lifts have been popular in the past 10 years. Its goal is to reduce the sad and tired look that comes with time and age. The muscles that are associated with facial expressions cause wrinkles, and with time can cause unwanted features. The muscles of the face are what help us with so many functions. From squinting, chewing, laughing or crying they perform a necessary duty. Unfortunately these muscles along with other skin factors cause the face to wrinkle. Beyond applying skin creams to fight wrinkles, exercising these muscles beyond your regular facial movements or being conscious of how our muscles in your face are moving may be beneficial to keep a younger look and for preventing wrinkles. There are approximately ten groups of muscles in the face, each one with a specific function. The face like the body moves downward with age. To fight gravity is almost an useless endeavor. Sometimes people choose to get surgery to correct this natural sag.

The Facial Muscles

The forehead muscles are responsible for moving your forehead up and down. Muscles called the frontalis muscle runs vertically. It draws your eyelids up and down with the movement of the skin. The Frontalis muscles have two parts, the inner and outer. The inner muscles move the inner brows while the outer frontalis moves the outer brow.

The Corrugator muscle can be thought of as the sad muscle and it is good for the grief and sadness expressions. It is located in the inner part of the eyes to the center of each eyebrow. It forms horizontal wrinkles in the nose area and above the nose in between the eyes.

Anther muscle that pulls the forehead down is called the Procerus muscle. It is located from the nose to the forehead. It helps pull the center of the forehead in the downward position. The Depressor Supercilli muscles works in conjunction with the corrugators and Procerus, it is located in the corner of the orbit by the eyebrow and it lowers in inner part of the eyebrow.

Most of these muscles are attached from the skin to the bone, unlike the rest of your body which is attached from bone to bone.

The Brow Lift Procedure

The endoscopic brow lift may help reduce these wrinkles and will pick up the sagging brows. The forehead muscles are the muscles that will be the most traumatized in the face since the instruments used by your doctor for the brow lift will be in the forehead area.

Discussion with your doctor or surgeon will reveal what they will move and manipulate when using the instruments to cut or move the forehead muscles and manipulate your brow. Are the attachments to the skin easily seen when performing the procedure, and what happens when the connection is accidentally cut?
