What is Rhinoplasty and How it Can Benefit You

By Robert Melkonyan

We often see a lot of beautiful people parade the TV, magazines, and billboards with their perfect skin, hair, and perfect noses. While some may be photographic editions or adjustments, many are surgically enhanced. Many of the famous celebrities and even ordinary people undergo nose jobs to enhance their facial features. The technical term is rhinoplasty and for a bevy of people, this invasive surgery has its benefits.

Michael, La Toya, and Janet Jackson are some of the more prominent celebrities that have undergone rhinoplasty. During her days in the limelight, Marilyn Monroe has been flagged with controversies about her facial features. Many believe that she also had a nose job.

People by nature are vain and they won't stop until other people see them as beautiful or admirable. Physical appearance is the prime target in any enhancements. People spend a fortune just to adjust the cheeks, chin, nose, breasts, and even buttocks just so they can look more beautiful.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgical procedures since the nose serves as the focal point of the face. Achieving better balance and symmetry will greatly improve one's look. A little adjustment on the bridge, tip, or reduction here and there is some of the more common requests of patients. People want their noses shaped, molded, or resized to achieve perfection.

The procedure is not always intended for aesthetic or cosmetic reason though, there are patients who need to go through the operation to address the defects of their septum as this is a major cause of sleep apnea. Some people have difficulty breathing normally because of blocked nasal airways. This is called corrective rhinoplasty. Such a procedure can also repair damages on the nose caused by accidents or injuries. Others have birth defects on their noses that they also want to correct through rhinoplasty.

Based on the studies made by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons there were close to 300,000 men and women who had nose jobs in 2005 for several reasons. The following are the known benefits of rhinoplasty:

* It helps improve the facial features of a person. Adjustments on the nose can enhance one's beauty.

* People who suffer from deviated septum can correct their breathing problems and have a better quality of life.

* Facial injuries caused by accidents can be repaired and brought back to normal.

* Birth defects can be corrected.

Although there are recognized benefits of this surgical procedure, people who are contemplating on undergoing it should be mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially prepared. One out of four of rhinoplasty cases often require revisions. This is why the choice for a surgeon is a very critical aspect of this operation. A procedure often costs more than $4000. A major portion of this amount goes to the professional fee, some to the anesthesiologist, and another percentage for the facilities used in the operation.

Rhinoplasty isn't recommended for everyone. Teenagers who are still going to develop physically shouldn't undergo this procedure unless necessary. Patients are also mentally and emotionally prepped before the procedure since there is really no assurance that the first operation will be perfect.
