Is Lipoabdominoplasty Better Than Liposuction?

By A Aaronson

Although liposuction can achieve what dieting and exercising can't, it does have some risks and disadvantages associated. The recovery period can include swelling, bruising, and discomfort. What if there was a type of liposuction that could give you the desired effect without the same side effects? Well, some surgeons today say there is a better way. It is called lipoabdominoplasty. This form of procedure in liposuction surgery was developed several years ago in Brazil and has since been introduced in the United States. It basically combines a standard tummy tuck or abdominoplasty with liposuction in targeted areas of the abs.

As an advanced technique, Lipoabdominoplasty has brought a significant change to the traditional tummy tuck in the United States. It has successfully combined the traditional liposuction with a traditional abdominoplasty, thus allowing surgeons to transform patients' tummies into a great shape.

How it works:

The plastic surgeon makes a long incision across the hips bordering the pubic bone. Then the skin is pulled gently away from the underlying muscles so that they can be sewn together and tightened for a firmer look. Liposuction tubes suck out extra fatty deposits to leave the stomach looking leaner and trimmer. Then the skin is stretched tight over the newly remodeled abs and the extra skin is cut off. The surgeon masterfully creates a new spot for the belly button and then sutures the stomach' skin back together at the original incision.

The main difference between traditional liposuction and lipoabdominoplasty is that the latter uses the liposuction cannula or suction tube to separate the muscle from the abdominal wall instead of a scalpel. This eliminates the complication of damaging nerves and blood vessels while reshaping and tightening the stomach muscles. The result is that patients of lipoabdominoplasty heal very quickly as they have a healthy amount of blood flood easily to the operated area, providing plenty of oxygen needed for repair. Complications of swelling, bruising, and necrosis are thus minimized.

After the plastic surgery, patients will have a recovery period of a couple of weeks. There will definitely be some scarring, and some time will be needed for rest and recuperation, but in general, healing takes place very quickly and any pain can be easily managed with prescription pain-killers.

If you want to have this cosmetic surgery procedure performed, make sure you seek out a very experienced surgeon and particularly one who is familiar and very comfortable with lipoabdominoplasty surgery.

If you are interested, you can ask your surgeon about having other cosmetic surgery performed at the same time as your lipoabdominoplasty. Other surgeries commonly include liposuction through the hips, back, and thighs.

The best candidates for this liposuction procedure are non-smokers with a realistic expectation about the results. This is a great plastic surgery for women who have recently given birth and are having trouble "getting their bodies back." It is also a great way to complete a new look for those who have just lost a massive amount of weight and have loose muscles and skin in the abdominal area. This can also be great for just about anyone who wants a tighter, younger looking stomach.
